STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The STEM School has 5 qualities, collaboration, communication, creativity, persistence, and inquiry. At STEM we use PBL, Project Based Learning. It is a way of learning where instead of learning a bunch of stuff and then doing a project, we start a project and then through that project we learn what we need to so we can complete the project and in doing that we learned everything we needed to for the curriculum.

The Dayton Regional STEM School cares more about the qualities more than tests and grades. STEM cares about culture and wanting to learn rather that how well we do, but how we tried and how we can try again with revisions. They want our best effort and the qualities let us do that because we can use the qualities as a perspective of how to go about learning and how to make the best of it. I think the qualities are really just a way of looking at learning and how to make the best of it. The qualities actually really make a difference, they have taught me to care about my work. I have to think about them daily because I’ve learned to. It’s second nature now to apply them to everything in the classroom. I always think about how I can use them.
