Persistence

Oxford University Press 2015

Persistence is in some ways the next step from inquiry. After you’ve asked and asked and asked as much as you can you have to actually find the answer and not give up. It’s also not quitting, to keep going when the going gets rough. This quality is emphasized at STEM because in life you can’t just quit. STEM teaches real life skills and they want you to succeed in the world. Like inquiry, we use persistence in every project too. We can’t just have unanswered questions, we have to actually focus and try and not give up because it’s hard. But also in physical fitness when you are trying to reach a goal you can’t give up. A time that is an example of this is that every day in fitness we have to do continuous jog for a certain time that increases through the year as a warm up. As the length increased it became quite difficult for me and I had to start stopping in the middle my jog. But I had to use persistence to make sure I kept going. And now I don’t need to stop. I built up my ability to jog more efficiently by jogging a little slower and keeping a steady breathing rate, I also drank a lot of water and here I am.
